Changing the Battery in Your Mazda 3 Key Fob

There's nothing more frustrating than getting to your vehicle after a long day and finding that the key fob battery is dead. Fortunately, it is an easy fix by purchasing a simple battery replacement from an electronics store or big box retailer.

A spare key fob for your Mazda 3 is an inexpensive way to avoid having to be towed to a dealer to have them reprogram the keys.

Battery Replacement

You can replace the battery on your Mazda 3 keyfob at home. However, you should only replace the battery when it goes out of service, or if the key fob displays a message on the multi-information display, "Low key fob battery. Replace battery."

You'll need to use a flathead screwdriver, tape and patience to open the case. Place the flathead screwdriver's tip in a notch or gap on the bottom metal of the Mazda 3 key fob to cut off the lower half. Repeat the procedure for the top piece of metal but be careful not to damage the rubber ring that is on the bottom of the case.

Once the fob's case is opened, you'll notice an opening on either side of the case, which houses the battery. Start on one side of the case and then gently push it open. Take out the old CR2025 and replace it with a brand new one, making sure you put it on its face to ensure proper direction of polarity. Put the cap of the battery on again and secure both sides of your key fob case by pressing until they click.

After replacing the battery after replacing the battery, lock and unlock your doors to verify whether the fob works. If everything is working then you're able to use your Mazda 3's remote features on the road again!

Pairing Issues

If your key fob stopped suddenly it could mean that the transmitter inside the car has been damaged. It's usually a job for a professional and you will require a brand new key fob.

If you've tried replacing the battery and reprogramme the key fob, but it's not working it is possible that the chip inside the key fob may be faulty. This could happen if the key fob was dropped on hard surfaces or exposed to salt water or even brushed by dirty hands.

To determine  mazda keys locked in car  of the issue You will need to locate a small "key" that is embedded into the seam of the fob that allows you to open it up and take out the circuit board. You will then be able to examine for any corrosion or damage on the chip. To prevent damaging the chip, it's best to use a fresh paper towel.

You can also inspect the battery connector's terminals to see if they are cracked or broken. If this is the case, then carefully reconnecting them will usually restore the function of the key fob. You can also inspect the buttons for wear or damage. If the buttons are loose, they can easily be re-soldered regardless of whether the button is physically snapped off.

Interference Signals

Few things are more frustrating than looking at an "No Fob Detected" message when trying to start your vehicle. It can happen at the most unfavorable possible times, like when you're late for work or you're trying to collect your children from school/daycare. The good news is that there are steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue and determine the root of the problem.

Interference signals can affect the remote key fob signal from the vehicle, causing it to not work correctly. This could be caused by objects such as buildings, weather conditions and transmitters that use the same frequency. Interference may occur if your vehicle is equipped with aftermarket equipment that transmits at the same frequency as your key fob.

Additionally, if the key fob is exposed to water or salt the water, it might be damaged. The rubber seals on the chip's electronic components can be penetrated by water, especially when it is submerged for long periods of time such as in a swimming pool or at the beach. The chip could stop working and may require replacement of the keyfob. If you have a programmable key it is possible to clean the chip with isopropyl alcohol or an electronic cleaner to aid in its come back to normal. If this doesn't work, the chip is likely fried and will need to be replaced.

Locking/Unlocking the Doors

The buttons on the key fob transmit electronic signals to the solenoid of the car, which then transforms the signal into mechanical action. This locks and unlocks doors. If your door lock does not work it could be due to an issue with the solenoid. This requires professionals from auto repair shops to examine.

A dead battery of 12 volts can also stop the fob from functioning correctly. This can happen when your battery is not charged or if your contacts become corrosion-prone. This issue can be resolved in a matter of minutes by replacing the battery.

If the key fob doesn't work after you change the battery or try to re-program it, the issue might be related to the receiver module. The device interprets radio frequency signals sent by the key fob to control the vehicle. If it malfunctions, it can be expensive to repair.

To determine if this is the case, begin by inserting your spare keys into the key slot and turning the ignition to ON. Press the key fob twice within 10 seconds, without removing it. The Mazda 3 system will now be able to synchronize the key with your vehicle and you can then use it as your primary remote for driving. You can program up to three keys this manner.
